Just English

Monday, June 1, 2009 - IT WAS a double celebration for teachers at Highlands Boarding International School (HIBS), as their Teachers Day celebration also marked the launch of the first Just English centre at the institution.

At the launch, four international students presented their speech on their life as a student in a foreign country, their aspirations, as well as their experiences in the ELS Language Centre.

Under its parent company ELS Language Centre, Just English has been offering English language courses to private secondary schools in Malaysia for the past six years, and this was the first time it tapped into the international school market.

ELS chief executive officer Chee Yin Fair said that the English language remains as one of the most widely spoken languages, as well as one of the worlds 10 most influential languages.

"We encourage our students to express themselves in English through different ways such as skits, role-playing, having excursions to Malaysian islands and other activities, but we never stray from the learning objectives," she said.

Chee added that their programmes were designed to help local and expatriate students aged between 12 and 16, as they may struggle to cope with the schools syllabus if they do not first strengthen their command of the English language.

Present at the event were representatives from 10 different embassies, and guests from different nationalities.

The guests were given a tour of the school, including the recently completed Just English centre located in the school compound.
